We are more than happy to announce that Kaunas City and Kaunas District have submitted an application to European Commission to become the European Capital of Culture in 2022. The concept of the programme is CONTEMPORARY CAPITAL. Once Kaunas (1919– 1940) was a Temporary Capital of Lithuania and that period had a great impact on the city’s development, culture and identity. With a second chance to become a temporary capital (for culture and Europe this time) we strive to explore our city’s contemporaneity and establish culture as an engine, which drives the strategic aim of Kaunas city to become home for learning and happy people.Read more
