UBCO FRX1 buvo sukurtas ekstremaliam važiavimui bekele – ar dviračių keliais, kilti į kalną ar kitur. Sukurtas iš pagrindų, FRX1 derina kalnų dviračio savybes su motokroso motociklo galia. Motociklas sveria tik 60 kg ir yra pagamintas iš lengvos, bet kartu patvarios aliuminio lydinio konstrukcijos. Variklis motociklo rėmo struktūroje yra centrinė ašis (jungianti rėmo dalis), ir kartu su baterija užtikrina žemą svorio centrą. FRX1 rėmo dizainas seka funkciją – visiškai minimalistinis, o atskiri komponentai (variklis, baterija) kartu yra ir struktūrinės dalys. Aušinamas elektrinis variklis leidžia išvystyti iki 80 km/h greitį – su momentiniu galios pateikimu. Nepaisant didelės galios potencialo, FRX1 lengva ir paprasta valdyti ir važiuojant lėtai. FRX1 elektrinis motociklas pasižymi ne tik tvarumu ar tyliu veikimu, bet taip pat ir techninėmis savybėmis. Jame naudojama 50V ličio jonų 2.2 kWh talpos baterija, kuri leidžia nuvažiuoti iki 100 km atstumą ir gali būti pilnai pakrauta per 6 valandas naudojant namų tinklą. Regeneracinis stabdymas varikliu leidžia sukaupti iki 10% baterijos talpos. Važiavimo saugumą užtikrina hidrauliniai stabdžiai. UBCO FRX1 buvo išvystytas Lietuvoje (Neematic prekinis ženklas), o dabar tapo UBCO (Naujoji Zelandija) produktų portfelio dalimi. Serijinė gamyba planuojama prasidės 2022 metais.

Lietuvos dizainas: from temporary to contemporary

Daugelis leidinių apie dizainą prasideda sakiniu, kad dizainą sunku apibrėžti. O kaip pasakoti apie Lietuvos dizainą? Kas yra Lietuvos dizainas? Kada jis atsirado? Kas nepatenka į dizaino sąvoką? Šiuos klausimus kelia ne tik tyrėjai, bet ir plačioji visuomenė.
Parodoje Lietuvos dizainas: from temporary to contemporary susitinka skirtingi ir netgi, nebijokime šio žodžio, eklektiški objektai. Tai neišvengiama, kai pristatomi trijose epochose (tarpukariu, sovietmečiu ir po 1990 m., Lietuvai atgavus Nepriklausomybę) sukurti dizaino gaminiai. Jie priklauso skirtingiems laikmečiams, nevienodas jų dydis, paskirtis, medžiagos, iš kurių jie pagaminti ir t. t. Taip pat tarp eksponatų rasime ir masinės gamybos (sukurtų gamyklose), ir vienetinių objektų.
Rengiant parodą, iššūkiu tapo objektų savitumas, neleidžiąs jų apibendrinti ar ieškoti panašumų. Kadangi kontrastingi ir patys laikotarpiai, nusprendėme nejungti objektų į vieną naratyvą, ir juos „miksavome“, parodydami jų kontrastus, o kai kur – panašumus. Parodos rengėjai nekelia sau užduoties parodyti, kas priklauso Lietuvos dizaino istorijai, eksponatai neskirstyti pagal įdomumą, sėkmingumą ar tiesiog „gerumą“.
Tikime, kad viena iš dizaino funkcijų – jaudinti ir kelti klausimus. Tokia ir šios parodos misija.

UBCO FRX1, electric motocycle

The UBCO FRX1 was made for extreme off-road riding, bike paths, going up hills, and more. Built from the ground up, the FRX1 combines the features of a mountain bike with the power of a motocross motorcycle. The motorcycle weighs only 60 kg and is made from light but sturdy aluminum alloy. Mounted within the motorcycle frame’s axis (connecting the parts of the frame), the engine and battery ensure a low center of gravity. Form follows function with the FRX1 frame design – it is completely minimalistic, while separate components (the engine and battery) are also structural components. The cooled electric motor allows for speeds up to 80 km/h with instantaneous power delivery. Despite the high-power potential, the FRX1 is easily controlled even at low speed. The FRX1 electric motorcycle is noteworthy not only for its environmental sustainability and quiet operation but also for its technical characteristics. Its 50V lithium-ion 2.2 kWh battery allows for trips of up to 100 km and can be fully charged in six hours using a household power supply. Regenerative braking by the engine allows for the accumulation of up to 10% o% of the tery’s capacity. Hydraulic brakes ensure safe driving. The UBCO FRX1 was developed in Lithuania (under the Neematic trademark) and is now part of the UBCO (New Zealand) product portfolio. Mass production is planned for 2022.

Lithuanian Design: From Temporary to Contemporary

Most publications about design begin by stating that design is difficult to define. What, then, can be said about Lithuanian design? What is Lithuanian design? When did it emerge? What falls outside the concept of design? These questions are posed not just by researchers but by society at large.
Diverse and even – dare we say it – eclectic objects meet in the Lithuanian Design: From Temporary to Contemporary exhibition. This is unavoidable, considering that design items created during three different epochs (interwar, Soviet, and after Lithuanian independence in 1990) are presented. They belong to different times, and they vary in size, purpose, production materials, etc. Also, the exhibits include both mass-produced (i.e., made in factories) and unique items.
In organizing the exhibition, the uniqueness of the objects posed a challenge, making it difficult to generalize them or identify similarities. With the time periods themselves also contrasting, we decided not to combine the objects into a single narrative. Instead, by intermixing them, we were able to demonstrate their contrasts – and in some cases, their similarities. The exhibition’s organizers do not strive to present what does or does not belong to the history of Lithuanian design, nor are the exhibits organized based on how interesting, successful, or “good” they are.
We believe that one of the functions of design is to excite and generate questions. Such is the mission of this exhibition.
