National governments all across Europe order their citizens to stay in the confinement of their homes via the freedom-inhibiting curfews. In these times of technocratic decision-making and crisis-managing, it is often unclear which information our leaders are basing their verdicts on. How can we as citizens hold our elected officials accountable for their policy implementations?

“Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022” invites to a “Civic Council on European Democracy” conference on 12-13 of March, where we will take a part in planning the future of Europe together with representatives of other countries. Rytis Zemkauskas, curator of the Kaunas Myth program in “Kaunas 2022”, will talk about democracy together with professionals from different areas and countries, critically evaluating current democratic systems.
During this think-tank session, speakers of the conference will come up with concrete recommendations on how to improve the working of our democracies, accountability of the leaders, and empowering the citizens under the current circumstances to send to leaders, both at the national and European level.
