Existing and forthcoming culture capitals have presented their programs in an encounter of European Capitals of Culture. The event was held in December at the Representation of the European Commission in Berlin.
‘Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022’ presented its program to Berlin artists along with other capitals of culture: ‘Matera 2019’ (Italy), ‘Galway 2020’ (Ireland), ‘Rijeka 2020’ (Croatia), ‘Novi Sad 2021’ (Serbia), ‘Timisoara 2021’ (Romania), ‘Esch 2022’ (Luxembourg), ‘Veszprem 2023’ (Hungary) and ‘Tartu 2024’ (Estonia).
European Capitals of Culture, which has started in 1985 and is ongoing for 34 years, is one of the biggest and most successful initiatives in Europe. Already more than 50 cities were honored with the title of European Capital of Culture. It‘s an opportunity to reveal the uniqueness and diversity of European cultures, strengthen the amity of Europeans and to encourage urban development.
