Open call for the artists residing in Wrocław and Kaunas | Projects‘ workshop
‘Kaunas 2022’ (Lithuania) and ‘Wroclaw Culture Zone’ (Poland) are inviting artists of different disciplines from Kaunas and Wroclaw, as well as Lower Silesia to join a three-day workshop and networking programme in Kaunas aimed at exchanging artistic practices and experiences and developing mutual projects that could be selected for the programme of ‘Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022’.
The participants of the workshop will be invited to create specific artistic projects designed with a view of implementing the following programmes of “Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022“: community programme “We, the people“ (specifically for the Fluxus Festival and the Neighbourhood Feast), “Memory Office”, “Modernism for the Future“.
The format of the workshop
The artists will receive an introduction to Kaunas-based artists, art organisations, and the programme of ‘Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022’. 5 artists from Wrocław will work with 5 artists from Kaunas to develop new artistic ideas which correspond to one or more of the following priorities of the workshop:
- common heritage that highlights the Polish-Lithuanian cultural and historic connections;
- memories related to specific sites in Kaunas;
- interdisciplinary artistic interpretation of the modernist architectural and intangible heritage of Kaunas;
- reflecting on identity of the place (local neighbourhoods, towns, villages) – artistic works/projects involving local communities in a co-creative or participatory way.
Key artistic disciplines/methods: sound art/music, light art, street art, literature, participatory and co-creative practices. However, the artists will be selected based on their motivation to work in a site-specific, community engaging, co-creative way and not on the discipline they practice.
The workshop will be held in English.
The organisers of the workshop will offer:
- free travel, accommodation (for Poland based artists) and subsistence;
- cultural programme and visits to relevant cultural institutions and organisations in Kaunas.

Up to 10 participants will be selected to attend the workshop: 5 from Kaunas and 5 from Wroclaw. The applicants are invited to fill the registration form available at https://bit.ly/36tdvPd. The form should be sent by January 27th, 2020.
