“Tachiki Public Art Award 2020” is a contest designed to support emerging, talented young artists taking off from Tachikawa to the world. The award calls for application for public artworks to be installed at “GREEN SPRINGS (tentative name)”, a new town, which will be completed in Tachikawa City, Tokyo in 2020.

There will be 5 artworks installed, each following one of the three themes:

  • Future – questioning what new experiences are waiting ahead and creating a dialogue with the world;
  • Environment – dialogue between social and natural environments, having in mind our nowadays surroundings;
  • Memory – dialogue with the roots of Tachikawa town evoking thoughts about the desired future.

Each one should have a non-stereotypical answer to the question “What is well-being to me?” and evoke conversations among people visiting the town. There will be 5 winners, each getting a prize of 500,000 JPY and a production subsidy, ranging from 1,000,000 to 4,000,000 JPY (the amount of subsidy depending on the location of where the artwork will
be installed). You are welcome to enter this contest If you’re aged 39 or under or the average age of your group is 39 or under. And that’s about it. You can apply for free, despite your nationality and submit as many
artworks as you want. But be sure not to miss the deadline – it’s on Thursday, April 4 in 2019!
