Composer, musician Patris Židelevičius works in the contexts of performative, sound, conceptual and visual art. He creates installations, experimental, electro-acoustic music, sound art, collects field-recordings, makes real-time compositions, soundtracks, conceptual sound structures for movement.
Patris combines cello melodies, analogue synthesizer passages, digital sounds, and field-recordings into music that has features of ambient, drone, musique concrète, instrumental improvisation, experimental and other contemporary music styles.

Stairs of Kaunas
About the project
Kaunas is located in the valley, so the stairs are inevitable and became especially important in the interwar period. They represent the growth of the city and its infrastructure, the development of its neighborhoods and the modernization of Kaunas – the introduction of funiculars. According to some sources, the total number of stairs in Kaunas is over 50.
The music created by Patris will tell a story about place, time, soundscapes, rhythm, start, process, end, transit, and change. This project is a search for the soundscapes of stairs as an architectural heritage and feedback between hearing yourself and hearing in the other. Stairs can be a transitional space, a sign, a direction, a kind of map, a symbol of duality, contradiction or opposition. Stairs can give a passage to some people, but restrict the others. In general, due to the significance of the stairs as a symbol, artists have long integrated these elements of small architecture into their works and turned them into a part of human aesthetic experience.
In this project, field recordings will be recorded binaurally, what literally means “for both ears”. Binaural sound recording is a method of recording a sound that creates a 3-D stereo-sound sensation for the listener, as if s/he was participating in the recording and hearing it with their own ears. This way of conveying audio material allows the listener to experience the world as the author of the work. This removes the boundary between yourself and the other, between the observer and the observed, between the performer performing the work and the listener listening. It becomes a kind of meditation: when you experience this piece of music, you have to think and listen at the same time, while reflecting on how many sound experiences you have in everyday life, and how you need to change your habits and behavior to experience a rich and varied sound of daily life. It is the search for constant feedback between hearing oneself in another and hearing another in yourself.
