Registration announced by the team of Kaunas European Capital of Culture 2022 to participate in the International Day of Happiness which will take place in Kaunas and Kaunas District on March 20 has ended last week. Currently organisers polish various details and prepare the programme of the Day of Happiness, while also shedding some light on what to expect in two weeks.

“We are glad that this year’s topic – increasing accessibility – has been acknowledged and inspired very nice and meaningful initiatives. During this year’s Day of Happiness, most of the cultural, science and business organisations and communities considered how their activities could become friendly for everyone, and especially those to whom the cultural life is not as accessible: for families with small children, seniors, people with disabilities or different needs, representatives of various cultures,” says event organiser Irutė Tumaitė.

This year, over one hundred different initiatives and organisations will join the International Day of Happiness to organise tours, dance lessons, parties, free exercise and a surprise for the seniors.

It is also important to mention that during the Day of Happiness, movies and performances will be adapted to the hearing-impaired, tours around the city will be interpreted in sign language, guests will spend the entire day in the retirement home, there will be happy offers in city cafés as well as surprises for people travelling by the public transport and trains.

The evening part of the celebration will take place in Kaunas Railway Station. As hinted by the organisers, this is where you will hear the performances of different music genres: 3 „silent“ concerts taking place at the same time in one space for the first time in Lithuania.

During the Day of Happiness, the team of Kaunas 2022 invites everyone to look for a lime in Kaunas and Kaunas District: it is a symbol of this year’s celebration, marking the places of unexpected surprises.

The International Day of Happiness was first celebrated in Kaunas and Kaunas District last year. Back then, over 70 organisations and initiatives joined the Day of Happiness, and over 2500 participated in the events. Over 15000 basketball fans generated the decibels of happiness in Žalgiris Arena.
