HAPPINESS TO CELEBRATE TOGETHER

The last challenging years highlighted the importance of the people connection – our families, colleagues, neighbours and other communities members. Therefore, in 2022 we announce that the biggest happiness is celebrating together – with people and among the people!

This year the Day of Happiness invites us to share the moments of joy longer – the celebration, which starts on 20 of March, will continue during the whole weekend! This year’s main topic and focus is happiness to celebrate together.

People are the cornerstone of the community. While being together, sharing ideas and kind words, they do create the power, which transforms the city into a bright and happy place to live. A happy city is a huge treasure which needs to be cherished every day, everywhere and always: in the supermarket, in the theatre or while being on the bus. Those happy moments are created daily in the most ordinary situations, and they are always inspired by people who are among us.

About the Day of Happiness

In 2018, the team of “Kaunas and Kaunas District – the European Capital of Culture 2022” has become the ambassadors of the International Day of Happiness in Lithuania. They are convinced that Kaunas is a city of happy people.

Celebration of happiness all over the world started in 2013. The International Day of Happiness is a celebration initiated by the United Nations, the aim of which is to enhance one of the most important emotions in every person’s life, namely, happiness. Every year on March 20, we will look for it and celebrate its various formats.

However, the team of Kaunas 2022 are not the only creators and authors of the Day of Happiness programme. Every year, we invite the following participants to contribute to the programme of the celebration: museums, libraries, schools, kindergartens, societies, clubs, retirement home, cafés and markets, next door neighbours or the entire house and simply everyone!

With your help, our aim is to develop this day into the happiest festival, which, by 2022 and even more actively afterwards, would be celebrated not only in Lithuania, but the entire Europe as well.

Seminar

Universal happiness means being aware of more than oneself, thinking of other and other kind of people, more vulnerable or excluded ones. This kind of happiness can be achieved by eliminating the existing barriers and creating a universally accessible culture.

Among the events of the Day of Happiness – seminar “Culture of accessibility and art of approaching: Experiences worth feeling happy about”, followed by a discussion.

At the seminar, the topic of accessibility which is of high sensitivity for Europe and Lithuania will be elaborated by international professionals of culture, psychology, design and urban planning. Seminar will take place at President Valdas Adamkus library-museum, address S. Daukanto str. 25, Kaunas. Time: 9.30 AM – 2 PM. Free Entrance.
