HALF-FORGOTTEN STORIES

I went to the bow of the boat and watched the towns and villages that we passed. [...] On the banks of the river women could be seen washing the family clothing and linens. Small fishing boats dotted the river. Towards evening, the boat steamed into Kovno. I looked with amazement upon the forts of the city and the high brick structures.
