Mateja graduated in Sociology and Italian language and literature at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. She’s the co-founder and director of MOTOVILA, Centre for the Promotion of Cooperation in the Cultural and Creative Sectors, acting as the head of the CED Slovenia, a national information office for the EU Creative Europe programme. Working in the cultural field since 1997 (first as Art & Culture Network Programme assistant within the Open Society Institute Slovenia), Mateja has been dedicated to stimulating capacity building and international cooperation of the sector. In 2002, she established (within SCCA-Ljubljana, a Centre for Contemporary Arts) Cultural Contact Point Slovenia (CCP), the first national information office in Slovenia for the EU cultural programme and acted as the head of the office until 2013.

MOTOVILA, established in 2013 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, is a non-governmental institute aimed at promoting transnational and cross-sectoral cooperation in the cultural and creative sectors. The institute implements information, advisory, training, networking, promotion and research activities dedicated to empower representatives of the cultural and creative sectors and facilitate their (inter)national connections, as well as to equip them with skills necessary for a successful access to cooperation opportunities available within and beyond the EU.
