Simonas Kairys was born on 19 April 1984 in Telšiai town, Lithuania. He graduated from Vytautas Magnus University with a bachelor’s degree in political science, and from Mykolas Romeris University with a master’s degree in law. His professional experience includes work at the secretariat of Kaunas City Municipal Council, public enterprise “Liberaliosios minties institutas” (Institute of Liberal Thought), AB “Lietuvos paštas” (Lithuanian post company). In 2011, he was elected as Kaunas City Councillor with duties of the Chairman of the Control Committee. In 2015–2019, he was Deputy Mayor at Kaunas City Municipality, in charge of culture, heritage, tourism, international relations, business climate, sports. In 2019–2020, he was Advisor to the Mayor at Kaunas City Municipality. Since 11 December 2020, Simonas Kairys has been working as Lithuanian Minister of Culture. He is also Deputy Chairman of the political group “Lithuanian Liberals’ Movement”, member of the Lithuanian Riflemen Union. He prefers spending his leisure time with his wife Deimantė and daughter Amelija, also enjoys playing basketball, tennis, playing guitar, reading books, travelling and discovering history.
