Galway 2020, European Capital of Culture, invites everyone to watch the premiere of the experimental, 8mm camera-captured short film Exquisite Corpse! On Thursday 29th April, Super8 Shots Festival will host a one-off screening of unseen footage gathered from Galway of years gone by as well as present-day Kaunas, Lithuania.

Super8 Shots Festival’s Wonder Years screening will give you a glimpse into rare, never seen before 8mm and 16mm digitally remastered amateur footage from Galway and Ireland dating back to the 1950s, 60s and 70s, with an original soundtrack composed by Galway based composer Mr Weasel. Film includes scenes of the Galway Races, Aran Islands, JFK in Galway, Longford Fleadh Ceoil, Kerry, Connemara, Lough Corrib, GAA 1964 Final and many other gems. It will be streamed on super8productions.ie at 7pm (Irish time) on Thursday 29th of April. You can „attend” the Facebook event here.
Galway’s history will be shown along with newly shot Super8 Film Kaunas footage as part of Exquisite Corpse; a collaboration with Kaunas 2022 Capital of Culture! Exquisite Corpse is the result of work by Julien Dorgere (Super8 Ireland), artist and director of the film Klostės / Folds Aideen Barry (commissioned by Kaunas) and Emilija Jefremova (EMJ Camera).
Online Super8 Film workshops with Kaunas based artists and aspiring filmmakers culminated in a collaborative film project that was edited for this live streaming event. This complimentary Film Project also partners with Aideen Barry’s own Kaunas 2022 project, where the artist will create an art film in Lithuania on modernism and hidden histories entitled Klostės Folds / Pleats. Find out more about this project HERE.
The festival organisers will be uploading stills and snippets to Instagram and Facebook over the next couple of days in anticipation of the screening.
