On the 1st of May international short-term sound art residency Matters_ starts in the framework of Kaunas European Capital of Culture 2022. Four artists participating in the residency programme over the run of 2018 will take it upon themselves to explore sound textures of the city. Each of them will have fourteen days to register and interpret the sound events of a contemporary city, lead creative workshops in which they’ll share their skills in soundscape manipulation and will present their work in micro concerts.
The first participant of the residency programme – William Bilwa Costa. Born in the Philadelphia (US) he is lately residing in Berlin, although one is very likely to encounter the artist on the way between the North America, United Kingdom and Europe, Asia and Australia. Bilwa is an active participant in international and interdisciplinary projects. According to the artist, collaboration is at the heart of his creative practice, thus his artistic portfolio is astoundingly varied, including experimentation accross the disciplines, works between sound, performance, visual art, research and laboratory.
