LONG TERM (2017–2023) GOALS OF THE PROJECT

 

STRENGTHENING OF COMMUNALITY:

₋ include various city and district communities (neighborhood residents, schools, ethnic groups, vulnerable individuals, seniors, and other) into the development of culture and events;

₋ stimulate cultural expression diversity and interculturalism initiating the joint projects of ethnic minorities and Lithuanian communities;

₋ establish the communication between different social groups through the creative practices;

₋ include individuals with disabilities and their families, social risk families in creative practices;

₋ broaden and develop the access to cultural projects for seniors and seniors with disabilities, and their families;

₋ decentralize culture;

₋ initiate the projects of food culture, social-ecological common-farming, urban community gardening, and hospitality with a particular emphasis on communality, public neighborhood events, hospitality activity, etc.;

₋ increase the offer of family-friendly cultural events for families with young and teenage children;

₋ initiate the projects that join the interests of different generations;

₋ involve youth and students in the development, implementation, and decision-making mechanisms of various civil and cultural initiatives;

₋ strengthen the ideal of values, volunteer activity, aid for the weaker, responsibility for the personal environment;

₋ initiate the programmes of social responsibility in businesses, that involve projects reflecting local culture;

₋ develop and implement the programmes to fight all forms of discrimination through cultural projects.

 

STRENGTHEN THE COMPETITIVENESS AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION OF EMPLOYEES IN THE ORGANISATIONS OF CULTURAL SECTOR, AND THEIR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

₋ strengthen an inter-institutional cooperation and partnership in the city, region, at a national and European levels;

₋ prepare personnel training focusing on community involvement and participation, programmes, training courses, seminars, and workshops;

₋ develop and implement the educational programmes for formal and informal environments, and audience development models;

₋ actualize cultural heritage through contemporary cultural projects;

₋ organize discussions and forums related to the harmonious and sustainable urban development, informing and involving the wider community of the city;

₋ accumulate and disseminate information and knowledge about the local culture.

 

PROMOTE ART, SCIENCE, AND DESIGN INNOVATION:

₋ promote the interdisciplinary (different fields of art) and crossdisciplinary (culture-business, art-science) co-operation, development of clusters, and long-term projects;

₋ develop joint projects between civil organizations, individuals, cultural institutions, and training centers seeking the interaction between the scientific culture, art, local history, and daily life;

₋ develop the image of Kaunas region as of a cultural and innovation center through private and public spaces projects where the high technology solutions and innovations are developed and delivered;

₋ develop science, art, and design innovation by improving Kaunas position in Europe as of the Design city in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network;

₋ develop creative industries (aid to small creative organizations that start the activity with the goal to keep as many young individuals as possible in the city after finishing the studies);

₋ assure a consistent local cultural life, research of cultural and creative industries through conferences, data collection, and processing.

 

BUILDING THE IDENTITY OF THE CITY AND DISTRICT, AND OPENING TO EUROPE:

₋ analyze the city and towns’ history and heritage, reflect and present contemporary interpretation through cultural goods and activities;

₋ actualize the issues and challenges that are important to today’s Europe;

₋ actualize the unique geographical position of the city and its natural resources (rivers, The Reservoir, parks, valleys, etc.);

₋ assure cultural rights to city residents of all ages, sexes, nationalities, and religious affiliations, notably the access to cultural services in physical and financial terms as well as the participation in the development of culture;

₋ develop and disseminate art products (fine arts, photography, film, literature, theater, music, etc.) about Kaunas city and its district development, and personalities;

₋ promote the innovation of traditional festivals;

₋ actualize the memory (with a special focus on the research of the cultural heritage of Jewish and other Kaunas ethnic minorities, and the consequent discussions, art, and community projects);

₋ actualize the modernist architectural heritage (architecture, literature, philosophy, university culture, cafe culture, etc.) through innovative approach;

₋ revive historical, industrial, and post-industrial urban complexes through cultural initiatives;

₋ create and consolidate modern urban identity;

₋ construct a discursive environment in the city (discussions, seminars, TV and radio shows with an ongoing discussion about Kaunas city’s identity, exclusivity, and ties to the common European experience and values);

₋ revive public spaces as places of human creativity, entertainment, communication, sports, games, family entertainment;

₋ produce innovative culture publicity strategies and products reinforcing the image of Kaunas in the region, Lithuania, Europe, and the world.
